Pay per decision with x402
A wallet-funded agent does not need an account. When the payment rail is operational, call any
paid endpoint without a key and the response is HTTP 402 with an x402 v2 challenge in the PAYMENT-REQUIRED
header. Settle it, retry with a PAYMENT-SIGNATURE header, and the response is
returned. This is metered per call, not per month.

How settlement works
Credit-card subscription via RapidAPI: Use the verified marketplace listing for card payment. RapidAPI issues the gateway key and manages marketplace billing; a RapidAPI subscription does not create a native sk_live_... key. The self-custody Base USDC rail below remains available for wallet-funded developers and agents.
Self-Custody Base USDC (For Developers & Smart Accounts): Subscriptions settle in USDC on Base (native ETH is accepted against a quote frozen when your purchase intent is created). You sign the quote before paying, the payment is verified against a credentialed RPC with three block confirmations, and the key is issued atomically — a transaction hash can be redeemed exactly once. Keys use a server-keyed HMAC-SHA-256 lookup index and a separate randomly salted SHA-256 verifier; plaintext keys are not persisted. Paid subscribers can rotate a lost key by signing a recovery challenge with the purchasing wallet; free keys are not recoverable.
